Mars rising over Haleakala Crater Moonbow
Title - Mars rising over Haleakala Crater Moonbow
- Artist: Original Photograph by Wally Pacholka
- Location: This picture was taken over the Haleakala Crater on the Island of Maui in Hawaii.
- Details: Picture was taken on Wednesday Jan 20 2010.
- Notes from the Photographer: A moonbow is just like the sun caused rainbow but is caused by the
moon reflecting off rain mist at a certain angle. I was very fortunate
to see this. But in a sense I created this fortune as I was always out
there: I drove up the crater mountain that night but also about every
night, even going twice the night before (early evening to shoot the
evening sky then back again in early morning to shoot the morning
sky). Hawaiians have other names for these rare Moonbows, here are a few: Tales from the Night Rainbow, Night Rainbow, and Mo’olelo o na Po Makole.
- Media: Unedited Photograph.
